Installing ContainerX Manager (cxMgmt) on prepared host without client installer

Detailed information can be found in the ContainerX install and administration guide

Download the latest dist.zip

On a bare metal host to be designated as CX management server, perform the following steps:

  1. Ensure you have root access to the host (including root environment, 'sudo -i')
  2. Copy dist.zip to the host via scp.
  3. Logon as root.
  4. Unzip dist.zip and it will unzip files under a 'dist' directory in CWD.
  5. cd ./dist
  6. Execute scripts/install_mgmt.sh. When asked to enter the IP address, enter host’s on-premise private IP address.
  7. On success, you should be able to browse to http://<MGMT SERVER IP>:8085.
  8. Proceed with creating an Elastic Cluster.

the python script is hard coded to run in a relative path of scripts\something.py - so you actually need to be in the dist directory and run ./scripts/installmgmt.sh to get that to work

Thank you for finding that error. I've made the correction.

I was installing on Scaleway - which doesn't let us run a custom kernel (yet) - That leaves us with Ubuntu 14.04 running a 4.5.x kernel with no aufs support.

GUI install fails so I switched to manual install to figure out why.

The install runs for a while (because it starts out using the overlay storage driver) but at some point it switches to aufs and then docker wont start and the installer starts throwing errors. Opening a second ssh session allows us to update the config in /etc/default/docker setting the storage driver to overlay - then run 'service docker restart' and the install process continues.

The current language in the Administration pdf needs correction, but the procedure in this article is current and correct.
