Preparing an Azure host for ContainerX Manager (cxMgmt) installation - Prepared Host

Detailed information can be found in the ContainerX install and administration guide

Obtain your Azure publish settings file

Get your Azure publish settings file by opening a PowerShell window as an Administrator. Then type >Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile.

This will open a browser window for you to enter your Azure Credentials. Follow the instructions to download your publish settings file. This file will be used when you begin to create Elastic clusters from within the CX UI.

This procedure has also been described in detail here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn385850(v=nav.70).aspx

Deploy an Azure VM to serve as the CX management host

  • From the Azure Marketplace, look for the Ubuntu 14.04 image published by Canonical.

  • Choose the classic deployment model:

  • We recommend at least 4 cores and 7GB RAM. For e.g size “A3” has 4 cores and 7 GB of RAM.
  • Choose either a password or SSH public key to access the VM.

  • Under optional configuration, you can choose the defaults for these
    1. Availability set: “Not configured”
    2. Network: Suggested defaults for these will work.
      • Virtual network: A new virtual network will be created with a specific address space CIDR block.
      • Subnet (Leave at default)
      • Domain name (Leave at default)
      • IP addresses (Leave at default)

    • Storage account: Create a storage account that you will use for all ContainerX virtual machines.
    • Extensions: “Not configured” (Leave at default)

  • We will configure “Endpoints” to allow these connections:
